Wednesday April 8, 2020 I have been so bad with logging in. I have been going out onto the WMA rail bed and up the Coyote Trail and just hiking for a lot of the time. I’ve gone on the Hidden Trail a couple times and of course that is just hiking. I really love going up off the rail bed trail and exploring. I think about being on the power line trail with the girls and the ponies and Missy back 40 years ago. Heather and Lucky chasing deer and whatever they saw. Now, it is just me and my memories. Oh dear, I’m getting maudlin.
This morning Roger went out ahead of me for his run. He came right back, mad as hell.
“They’ve done it!”
“Done what?”
“Closed the trail.”
That’s right. The governor issued an order to close all the state and county parks and somehow that applies to our trails. There is police tape on both sides of Pleasant Hill Road. Roger put on a dark jacket and went back out and went over to the other entrance. There was no tape there so he wasn’t disobeying. He was out for a couple of hours and said that he felt better today. It could have been the adrenaline. I, on the other hand am so upset that I haven’t gone out yet. I may not go out. Maybe get on the Zero.
I finally got on the Zero after 1:00 this afternoon and did 37 minutes. I tried to keep the pace up but didn’t do any fast stuff. Mark Williams’ sister was the producer of a 60 minutes segment broadcast on Sunday. He posted on Facebook that we should watch it. It was Scott Pelly and the impact the Coronavirus is having in New York City. It was very interesting, and of course, we in New Jersey can relate to that. Although I am not laid off, or anything like that, but I am stressed by what is happening.
That gets me back to the trails. We, the people, need an outlet for our stress. Does Murphy think that we are playing group sports on the trails?! Yes, some people are together but they are clearly people who live together – families or couples. We all stay to the right when we approach another person on the trail. We keep our distance. We need to get out and exercise – walkers, hikers, and runners – and oh, don’t forget the people on their mountain bikes. Does he want us all on the roads? There are no shoulders here. It is much safer on the trails.
